Proverbs 30:5 (NIV)

God doesn’t profit from us reading His Word, the Bible. It is us who benefit from it. For example, as we read what God and Jesus have done for us, and become more and more aware of the loving care and unmerited grace of Jesus, we are becoming increasingly free from worries, fears, and guilt. Jesus puts it this way: “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Jesus in John 8:31-32; NIV)

The condition for God’s help

The following Bible verse tells us that not only is God’s Word fully true, but that it is a protective shield against all adversities that can annoy us in life, but only for those who seek refuge in the Word of God, i.e. believe what God tells us in the Bible: “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” (Proverbs 30:5; NIV)

Jesus tells us: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” (Jesus in Matthew 7:24-25; NIV) • House built on the solid foundation
