Think about this tremendous exchange that took place when Jesus hung on the cross.
- Jesus was completely sinless. He deserved no punishment. Nevertheless, he was punished and slaughtered.
- We, on the other hand, deserved the punishment. But we were not punished. We were given our health and righteousness through the sacrifice of Jesus.
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21; NIV)
Jesus did not deserve the crucifixion; You do not deserve your sanctification. But out of love for you, Jesus took the sacrifice for you to be free. “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” (Galatians 5:1; NLT)
