Psalm 23 and Jesus

October 31, 2018 Reading Time: 2 minutes

Psalm 23:6 (NIV)

The devil trips people and then points to God and says ‘There, He did it!’ And religious people who fall for the lies of the devil, because they don’t know the Bible correctly, repeat the devil’s lies.

But what about Job? God made Job sick.
I don’t know what Bible you’re reading, but in my Bible, it says, “So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.” (Job 2:7; NIV) The devil sent Job’s illness. Not God. So don’t fall for the lie that God sent the illness into Job’s life. There is no darkness in God (1 John 1:5, James 1:17); nothing bad comes from God. God is our friend; the devil is our enemy.

It’s clear in Psalm 23

Right in the first verse of Psalm 23, the condition for God’s all-encompassing blessing is communicated to us: “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.” (Psalm 23:1; NLT) You must make God your shepherd; not your own wisdom, not your own strategies, but trusting God to care of you and guide you. But our own pride stands in the way.

However, if God is your shepherd, then you can rely on this: “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life …” (Psalm 23:6; NIV)

It’s clear from Jesus

Don’t forget what Jesus says to His flock: a life of abundance (Jesus in John 10:10) and hundredfold blessings, both materially and spiritually, not in heaven but now in this world: “I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.” (Jesus in Mark 10:29-30; NLT)

Devils and religious people, who don’t know God’s glorious nature, want to persuade us that God is to blame for distress and troubles in our lives. But nothing is further from biblical truth. • Jesus healed 2,000 years ago; and He will heal you, too
