Jesus in John 8:31-32 (NIV)

In human history, freedom has often been tried to be established with earthly-secular strategies. Often, this ended in even more oppression and bondage. Example: In Russia, the czar was ousted by a revolution; the subsequent communist regime led to one of the worst repressions of freedom and human dignity known in history.

The truth will set you free

“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Jesus in John 8:31-32; NIV)

People want to be free from anxiety, so they swallow tablets and end up in drug addiction.

People want to be free of worries, so they start drinking alcohol, and end up in bondage.

How different the way that God offers. What does Jesus tell us? For example that God, our Heavenly Father, cares for us — always and in everything. We can be free of fear and worry. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7; NIV) — Do you believe that? It happens to you according to your faith; also something that Jesus tells us (Jesus in Matthew 9:29).

The devil wants to persuade people that following God would lead to bondage. The opposite is the case. God makes us free; the strategies that the devil offers always result in terrible bondage. Why is that? God loves us and wants the best for us; the devil hates us and wants to break us.
