Let’s be clear: When God keeps asking us to pray / speak to Him, it is not because He recommends something that harms us, but on the contrary, keeping in touch with God is good for us, helps us and builds us up more and more.
- “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Romans 12:12; NIV)
- “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” (Colossians 4:2; NIV)
- “the Lord hears when I call to him.” (Psalm 4:3; NIV)
Praying / talking to God is not just giving God our wishlist (although, of course, we can ask God for anything). Likewise, praying / talking to God is not the repetition of memorized religious words.
Our best friend
Praying / talking to God is the conversation with our best friend. We can and should talk to Him about everything. God is omniscient anyway (He knows our most secret thoughts anyway: “Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” Psalm 139:4; NIV), so why try to hide anything from Him? On the contrary, we can and should bring everything in conversation to Him and be thankful that He leads and helps us.
Praying twice a day?
I often hear from religious people that they pray twice a day. How sad. So little do such believers talk to the Almighty, their heavenly Father, who loves them?
No, we are constantly talking to God. Not forced, but throughout the day as we have needs, fears, worries, questions. And we have plenty of reason and need to talk to God, our Healer, our Provider, our Protector.
