Will the Antichrist and False Prophet go to hell before the devil?

March 14, 2019 Reading Time: 2 minutes

Will the Antichrist and False Prophet be sent to hell before the devil?

After the second coming of Jesus at the Battle of Armageddon, the Antichrist (called the beast in Revelation), along with his religious counterpart, the False Prophet, is taken by God and cast into hell (Lake of Fire):

“But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.” (Revelation 19:20; NIV)

The Antichrist and False Prophet are defeated by Jesus.

But “only” the Antichrist and False Prophet are first banished to hell (fiery lake). The devil will follow them later. 1,000 years later.

  • Inhabitants of the earth will worship the antichrist as God
  • Who is the False Prophet during the end times?

Jesus has his seat of reign in Jerusalem

After defeating the forces of evil at the Battle of Armageddon, Jesus (based in Jerusalem) builds his 1,000-year kingdom. During that time, we humans are freed from demonic attacks by the devil, because the devil is locked away for the duration of the 1,000-year kingdom (Revelation 20:1-3): “to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore…” (Revelation 20:3; NIV)

The final locking up of the devil

But when the thousand years are up, Satan will be released from his prison: “When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison” (Revelation 20:7; NIV)

Immediately, the devil again gathers people hostile toward Jesus. These armies are on their way to Jerusalem to attack Jesus and the Jesus-believers. But they are quickly defeated: “But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.” (Revelation 20:9; NIV)

At the beginning of the millennial kingdom of Jesus, the Antichrist and his religious counterpart, the False Prophet, were banished to the lake of fire (hell). Well, at the end of the Thousand-Year reign, when the devil has been defeated in his renewed effort to defeat Jesus, the devil too will be banished into the lake of fire for all eternity: “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10; NIV) He will never again have the opportunity to lure people with his confusing disinformation and lies on the wrong path.
